HARVEST - Sparkman wasn't in any danger of losing Friday night's Class 6A, Region 8 clash against Florence High as time wound down in the third quarter.

The hosts' 24-6 halftime lead was still intact when the Senators took over at their 23 with less than a minute remaining in the third. Then Wes Alexander connected with Jusmon Rivers on a 56-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter and the visiting Falcons spent the rest of the game imploding as Sparkman romped to a 52-13 win at Senators Stadium.

Sparkman improved to 4-0 in Region 8 (4-3 overall) and has already qualified for the 6A playoffs. The Senators visit rival Bob Jones next Friday, then play Decatur in a rescheduled showdown that's shaping up to be for the region championship.

Sparkman piled up 292 rushing yards and Alexander completed three passes for 92 more, but Senators coach Roger Haynes still wasn't overly pleased with his team's performance.

"We didn't tackle well at all," Haynes said. "We had a lot of missed tackles and I was very disappointed in that, but other than that I was pleased."

Troy Nance scored on runs of 32 and 2 yards in the first seven minutes, Dezmond Richardson added a 23-yard TD run and Trent Bissell kicked a 20-yard field goal as Sparkman surged to 24-6 halftime lead. Florence (2-5, 1-3) got its first-half touchdown on a botched Senators reverse that Jarell Mitchell eventually recovered in the end zone.
