Late TD pass lifts Sparkman 21-14

Senators take 21-14 homecoming victory over Hazel Green

HARVEST - Quarterback Whitney McKinney threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Jusmon Rivers to send Sparkman past Hazel Green 21-14 in front of a large homecoming crowd Friday night.The Senators (1-2 overall and 1-1 in Class 6A, Region 8) twice kept the Trojans from scoring inside Sparkman's 10-yard line. Richard Thompson put Hazel Green ahead with an 85-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter.Sparkman later surged ahead 7-6 behind a 11-yard interception return by Jason Gaines.
The Senators then moved ahead 14-6 at halftime behind a 3-yard touchdown run by Josh Brown.
Trojans quarterback Colby Lipham threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Georgie Malone, and a two-point conversion tied the score at 14-all with 7:47 left in the third quarter.Hazel Green which got over 100 yards rushing from Thompson, fell to 0-3 and 0-2.
