Sparkman loses to Pell City in the 4th.

Harvest - It was a near capacity crowd at Senators Stadium in Harvest that watched the home team lose a great game late as Pell City defeated Sparkman 15-9. Ryker Cence hit Rulon Scott with a 14-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter to lead the visiting Panthers (1-0).
Pell City scored early when Cence connected with Scott on the first play from scrimmage for an 80-yard touchdown. Michael Kitchens hit a short field goal for Sparkman to cut the lead to 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.In the second quarter, Sparkman's Dezmond Richardson broke several tackles en route to a 37-yard touchdown run. The point after was blocked and the Senators (0-1) led 9-7 at the half. Sparkman and Pell City exchanged battled tough in the third with Sparkman dominating on the ground.... ... Sparkman was driving late in the fourth quarter when there was a fumble on the exchange between the quarterback and running back.Pell City recovered and ran it 46 yards to set up its final scoring play. Cence added the two-point conversion.On the ensuing drive Sparkman drove from their own 35 to the Pell City 4 before Rulon Scott intercepted a Whitney McKinney pass on the 4-yard line with less than a minute remaining in the game.Pell City then ran out the clock to preserve the win.

Notes: Sparkman is coming off of a 7-4(6-0 in region 8 play) season where they won the Region 8 Championship. Pell city is coming off a 6-5 season in Class 6A Region 7. Sparkman coach Roger Haynes is 12-10 in his 3 rd year at Sparkman; Pell City is coached by Jay Brown who is 23-11 in his 4 th year. Last year Pell City defeated the Senators 20-17 in Pell City . Next week Sparkman host Austin, while the Pell City host Hillcrest Tuscaloosa . All three Sparkman Turnovers were in the 4th quarter.
