Senators close season with 37-27 win over Athens
Sparkman 37, Athens 27: In Harvest, Sparkman ended a disappointing season on a high note with a win over the visiting Golden Eagles. The Senators dominated the first half, holding Athens to only 36 rushing yards before the Golden Eagles mounted a strong comeback in the second half. Sparkman took the opening kickoff and marched 81 yards in 13 plays with Bryant Williams scoring on a 9-yard run. After an Athens punt, the Senators quickly moved down the field until their drive stalled at the 8-yard line. Michael Kitchens made a 25-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the third quarter, Sparkman extended its lead to 37-7 on touchdown runs of 12 yards by Weaver and 1 yard by Williams. Athens then mounted a comeback with Blake Sulcer scoring on a 1-yard run, Justin Brown on a 7-yard pass from Todd Pepper and Chris Cain on a 4-yard run to bring the score to 37-27.Both teams finished the season 3-7.
